Description :

The Vocabulary of the Minninng people is continued and that of the tribal group from Mount Illbillee in the Everard Ranges begins. The Minninng people are now generally called the Ngatjumaya people and are a Western Australian tribe. Larry Wells's vocabulary appears to be the earliest recorded of their language, according to Norman Tindale. The people at Mount Illbillee in the Everard Ranges were possibly the Antakarinya people, or may have been another group temporarily at Mount Illbillee. Again Larry Wells is considered to be the earliest recorder of their language.

At the end of the official report of the Elder Scientific Exploring Expedition were appended several vocabularies of Aboriginal Tribes encountered by the expedition in the course of its explorations. There were specific instructions regarding this in the Handbook of Instructions prepared for the expedition, including a 'System of orthography' as used by the Royal Geographical Society in London. In particular there was a list of words for which the Aboriginal word was to be sought from as many of the tribes as possible, so that comparative studies could be made. Knowledge of the differences among the numerous Aboriginal languages was in its infancy.
