Description :

W. M. Letchford\'s residence at Albert Terrace, Glenelg. [The current address for the house is now 14 South Esplanade, Glenelg.]

W M Letchford's residence, Albert Terrace, (now South Esplanade) Glenelg is elaborately decorated with iron lace.

Victorian architecture is recognized by the use of decorative cast-iron lace and ornamentation. Iron lace was introduced to Australia in the 1840s and became a popular choice on both public and domestic buildings, most notably on verandahs.

Adelaide, by virtue of the date of its colonisation was developing and being built during the cast iron lace era. Much of Australia's cast iron was produced locally, with the designs being imported from England. The three primary foundries producing cast iron in Adelaide were The 'Sun' Foundry, Fulton's Foundry and Metters' Foundry.
