Description : |
Two wooden heart puzzles, an Imperial scale puzzle, the Arabi gun puzzle, a strand of interlinked rings, and a wire puzzle or vexier. All of these puzzles, which are only a few of the puzzles within the Lucy Collection and the Children's Literature Research Collection, involve patience and dexterity; some involve a trick or secret, which are mostly revealed in Hoffman's Mechanical puzzles. The Lucy Family of Modbury donated a collection of books, toys and games to the State Library in the 1980s; the puzzles and tricks within the collection and many of the books reflect the interests of William Everard Lucy in the subject. No doubt he delighted in amusing family and friends with these. They were played with by several generations before being given to the Library. |
