Description :

Pages 1-5 of Simon Copley's A comparative study of soldier settlement in South Australia and Victoria, 1943-1950, Thesis (B.A. Hons.) - Flinders University of South Australia, 1979.

In this extract, the author outlines the concept of soldier settlement after World War 1 and some reasons for the failure of the scheme. Reasons for failure included Government miscalculation of the number of soldiers desiring land, the speed of return home of soldiers, inadequate provision of land, and inaccurate estimate of expenditure.
