Description :

The ceremony for the laying of the stone to begin work on the first lock on the River Murray, the William R Randell Lock at Blanchetown, includes speeches from the Premiers of South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales, Governor of South Australia, Prime Minister and various other dignitaries. The speeches summarise the years of negotiation to reach this point, the interstate cooperation and the benefits the locks will bring. The lock was completed in 1922.
