Letter written by Rosina (Mrs. William) Ferguson to her parents and friends in England, while in Adelaide, South Australia (15 February 1837). Mrs. Rosina Ferguson, wife of William Ferguson, was a passenger on the Buffalo (ship). She refers to Governor Hindmarsh and to the early South Australian settlement in Adelaide. She describes conditions on the Buffalo and criticises the behaviour of the Rev. C.B. Howard. Mrs. Ferguson also refers to the soil near Adelaide, the scarcity of transport, the 'peaceable natives', wages and other conditions. This letter is featured on Australia Post's Letters of a Nation website. |
